JAL COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTING
"Say what you mean, mean what you say,
and say it well with your body and your words."
If you are AUTHENTIC in your communication, you are more
TRUSTWORTHY and thus more CREDIBLE.
My technique is about identifying what makes you unique...
and then assisting you in developing a facility in demonstrating that uniqueness
for more effective and engaging communication.
EMPATHETIC EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
I conduct one on one coaching and group workshops that teach and develop more effective communication skills for the courtroom, the boardroom, the tv studio,
the lecture hall, and in all professional relationships
– one on one or when speaking to thousands.
Empathetic connection is how we as individuals understand each other
and our ability to convey and experience empathy
directly affects all communication.
I demonstrate how every individual has naturally compelling empathetic skills
that can be developed and refined to guarantee better
and more effective communication.
An individual’s public persona can be influenced and shaped by subtle but significant non-verbal and verbal communication that includes posture, vocal tone and pitch, eye contact, and facial and physical expression.
I conduct workshops and one on one coaching in which I give examples of
how this is evident and ever present in everyday life.
I engage the participants using interactive exercises that support these observations, and teach techniques to become more fluent in selecting and executing certain behaviors appropriate to the individual and the environment.
To be more successful in gaining attention and focus during a long speech
(or presentation, or argument) in these “short-attention-span-sound-bite” days,
I show how to make presentations truly dynamic and engaging by teaching exercises and techniques that can be done by everyone on their own,
and illustrating how the expressive body can be trained and refined
through specific and learned rehearsal techniques.
I work with each client on their feet in a practical and physically
interactive and stimulating manner.
We learn best by doing while engaging the body and the mind simultaneously.
I introduce the concepts of intention and objective
to create dynamic presentation.
The use of action identified by intention and objective is illustrated by the practice of specific exercises designed to facilitate functionality and practical application.
Special attention is paid to vocal energy, expression, and flexibility.
Exercises exploring the relationship of vocal expression to intention are learned
as well as corrections that address the impression of over-aggressiveness,
falseness, excessive formality, excessive detachment,
or issues of nervous tension and vocal fatigue.
MIND READING
In my work, I examine the phenomenon of ‘mind reading’ using the newly discovered mirror neurons.
“Mirror neurons undoubtedly provide, for the first time in history, a plausible neurophysiological explanation for complex forms of social cognition and interaction. By helping us to recognize and understand the deepest motives
behind those actions, the intentions of other individuals.” — Marco Iacoboni (UCLA)
A mirror neuron is a neuron which fires both when an animal performs an action and when the animal observes the same action performed by another
(especially conspecific) animal.
Thus, the neuron "mirrors" the behavior of another animal, as though the observer were itself performing the action. Mirror neurons are essentially a monkey see/monkey do type of motor neuron
(a nerve cell that controls muscles) that also allow the brain cells to experience empathy (e.g., flinching when seeing somebody get hit in the groin "feeling" the action in the body). Yawning, blushing, and crying can be contagious for this reason, and laugh tracks also work in this way.
By becoming more conscious of how and what we convey consciously and unconsciously with our minds and bodies, we can better affect how people perceive and understand us.
Understanding leads to empathy and thus better communication between individuals and groups.
